Wine Tasting Soiree ~ Inaugural LIV VERO Event

Updated: Jun 12

To celebrate its launch, LIV VERO Magazine hosted the Second Neighborhood Wine Tasting Extravaganza at the home of Diane and Jim Field.

Mariruth and Doug Webster, generous and gracious beyond words, provided the wine and food, which were superb. Guests arrived extremely excited to showcase their wine-tasting skills. Attire was casual cocktail. Doug is an accomplished student of wine and it was his evening in the spotlight as organizer, examiner, and expert. He selected the country of focus: Italy. He chose five reds from various regions to sample, drink, and enjoy: Sicily, Tuscany, Piedmont, Volpolicella, and Bolgheri. Participants (14) were provided five wine glasses each, one dedicated to each wine, all glasses identical (70 glasses total, Czech crystal). In addition, French baguette slices were apportioned as palate cleansers. Finally, three-page examinations, developed by Doug, were distributed, to separate wheat from chaff.

Doug opened the session by describing how things would proceed, how the examination (point system) should be approached, and, as an added bonus, the finer points of how to evaluate fine wine. Unevenly skilled, each participate was left to apply their own methods to the analytical challenge At the conclusion of the wine tasting, guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet, prepared and delivered by Big Worm’s BBQ in Ft. Pierce.

Diners found their way to the courtyard, whose ambiance reflected the aftermath of a warm and sunny day. The moon, stars, and planets shown brightly, as did select guests. Following dinner and dessert — an iron skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream — additional beverages were served and music volume inched higher.

The soiree concluded with the dramatic announcement of the exam winner: Mariruth Webster herself! Doug presented her with the coveted award, passed down from the First Extravaganza: a Goya canned ham.
